Blue Aadhaar Card for Children: A Simple Guide for Parents

Blue Aadhaar Card for Children: Getting an official ID card for a young child is now very easy in India. The government issues a special card for kids under five years old called the Blue Aadhaar or Baal Aadhaar. Unlike normal adult Aadhaar cards that are white, this card comes in a bright blue color.

What is the Blue Aadhaar Card?

The Blue Aadhaar is designed specifically for babies and young children under 5 years of age. Since small children grow fast, their fingerprints and eye patterns change as they grow. Because of this, kids do not need to give fingerprint or eye scans for this card. Only a simple photograph of the child is taken, and the card is linked directly to the parent’s Aadhaar card.

Why Do You Need It?

Having a Blue Aadhaar card helps parents in many ways:

  • School Admission: Most schools ask for an ID card when you enroll your child.
  • Travel: It works as official photo ID when traveling by train or airplane.
  • Government Benefits: It helps you easily access health schemes and government welfare programs for kids.

Documents Needed to Apply

You only need two basic documents to get a Blue Aadhaar:

  • Child’s Birth Certificate (or hospital paper for newborns).
  • Parent’s Aadhaar Card (either mother’s or father’s).

How to Get It Step-by-Step

  • Book an Appointment: Visit the official UIDAI website and book a time slot at your nearest Aadhaar center.
  • Visit the Center: Take your child and the documents to the center on your booked day.
  • Take a Photo: The staff will check your papers, take a quick photo of your child, and link it to your Aadhaar.
  • Get the Card: The card is completely free. It will arrive at your home address by post in a few weeks.

One Important Thing to Remember

The Blue Aadhaar card is valid only until your child turns 5 years old. Once your child reaches age 5, you must take them to an Aadhaar center to record their fingerprints, eye scan, and a new photo. This update is also completely free, and it converts the blue card into a regular adult Aadhaar card!
